The Competitiveness Through Linkages Project was launched on June 25th, 2009 and is funded by the European Union under the Banana Support Programme SFA 2006 titled Economic Diversification. The EUR 1.3 million/ EC$ 4.6 million Project is being implemented by the St. Lucia Chamber of Commerce, Industry & Agriculture – Business Development Unit (BDU), over a 33 month period and is designed to enhance private sector growth by increasing company sales and enable businesses to compete more effectively in the global economy.
The overall objective of the Project is to increase St. Lucia’s competitiveness and to successfully integrate it into the world economy through a dynamic private sector and export-led strategy, supported by a strong tourism sector with backward and forward linkages to the agricultural, manufacturing and service sectors. The specific objective is to achieve a stable economic growth path, based on a well diversified economy with low unemployment and sustained livelihood (s) in targeted rural communities.
The BDU supports the growth of businesses by providing technical assistance to enable them to increase their sales and will assist these businesses in identifying and removing constraints inhibiting sales growth through focused and cost-effective support. Assistance from the Project is tailored to removing the constraint or “bottleneck” that inhibits a specific business transaction.
Against this background, the Chamber invites you to attend the Competitiveness Through Linkages Project Presentation scheduled for Thursday August 13th, 2009 at The Still Restaurant Resort Restaurant & Bar, La Perle Estate, New Development, Soufriere from 10:00am to 12:30pm.
