Concern
  • This Article seeks to ensure that the LDCs of CARICOM continue to have a viable manufacturing sector and some specific products were identified for support as part of the single market and economy.
  • A Consultancy was commissioned to develop a program of support for Article 164 products.
  • The Consultancy is near completion and a review of this work is ongoing.
  • Chamber’s concern is that the study is not comprehensive and the recommendation will not be sufficient or aimed at real transformation and addressing the structural issues confronting the products and industries.
  • Primarily the results will propose only short to medium term measures and have a predetermined sunset period.

Continues to await the results of the monitoring of the impact of the quasi- implementation of the measures on prices of the products.

Calls for a broader review of the need for special and differential treatment for the Industrial development of the LDCs’ in keeping with the original intention of the Revised Treaty of Chagaramus
