Minister of National Security Hon. Hermangild Francis and Superintendent George Nicholas will be speaking with members of the business community on the critical issue of Citizen Safety on January 21st, 2021 from 5:30 p.m.  

This has become a regular part of the engagement program of the Police and Chamber, where updates on the state of crime, government law and order, plans and programmes are shared with the business community. Crime has serious negative impacts on Business the world over. From direct impact, in terms of robberies, white collar crime, to directly affecting customers and staff. The actual cost of crime prevention and security have over time become increasingly large and significant portions of business operation costs.

While St. Lucia has not experienced major violent crime against business in recent times, the concern remains that businesses in St. Lucia are vulnerable to crime. Moreover, the impact of crime on the ordinary citizen who are the very customers of business is also detrimental to business. The quality of life in the community is also affected by poor citizen safety, crime against the individual, and personal property, and of course the scourge of homicide also has major impacts on business in general.

What the Government is doing in the area of crime prevention and detection is also of interest to Chamber Members who over the years have been more than willing to play their part and join the fight against crime.

It is in this context the Chamber is convening a Dialogue between members, the Minister of National Security and the Royal St. Lucia Police Force titled “Talking Citizen Security” represents the first in the Chamber Encounter Series for 2021 and will be held on January 21st 2021 from 5:30pm. This virtual event is expected to be interactive and informative and members are expected to leave well informed and better prepared to play their part in bringing security and improved law and order to St. Lucia.
